A man has been arrested on suspicion of abduction after concerns for the safety of a woman in a van.

Police were called to the One Tree Hill nature reserve in SE23 at around 2pm on Wednesday.

A member of the public had reported concerns for a woman who had been in a van that was driven away.

Officers searched surrounding areas and spoke to the public.

They traced a man down to Downham Way in Lewisham at around 3.55pm.

The van has been found and a man in his mid-30s has been arrested on suspicion of abduction.

He was also arrested on suspicion of possession of a prohibited weapon, possessions of class A and B drugs, possession of an imitation firearm and possession of offensive weapons.

He remains in police custody.

UPDATE: Officers have since spoken to the woman and confirmed she is safe.

They do not believe anyone else to be at risk.

Police enquiries are ongoing.  

Officers are not currently looking for anyone else in connection with this.

"At approximately 14:00hrs on Wednesday, 27 April police were called to One Tree Hill nature reserve, SE23.

"A member of the public reported concerns for the safety of a woman who had been in a van that was driven from the scene.

"Officers were immediately deployed, searched the surrounding areas and spoke to members and the public, and traced a man to Downham Way, Lewisham at approximately 15:55hrs.

"The van has been found and a man in his mid-30s arrested on suspicion of abduction.

"He was also arrested for possession of a prohibited weapon, possessions of class A and B drugs, possession of an imitation firearm and possession of offensive weapons.

"He currently remains in police custody, No female victim has been located at this time, enquiries continue to ensure they are safe.

"Police are not currently looking for anyone else in connection with the matter.
