Lewisham Way will remain closed for the foreseeable future following a shooting which happened in the early hours of this morning.

Drivers are being advised to take alternative routes wherever possible.

Police were called to Lucas Street, just off Lewisham Way, at around 3am on Saturday morning after reports of a shooting.

The woman was found with a gunshot wound to her arm and was rushed to hospital.

Her injuries are not believed to be serious or life threatening.

A number of crime scenes are currently in place while investigations are ongoing.

Police say that no arrests have been made at this early stage.

Anyone with any future information about this incident should contact the police quoting crime reference number CAD 942/23 Apr.

Lewisham MPS tweeted: “#Road closures | The #A20 #Lewisham Way #SE13 is currently shut in both directions following a police incident in the early hours of the morning and will remain closed for the foreseeable.

“Motorists are advised to use alternative routes wherever possible.”

A spokesperson for Metropolitan Police said: “Police were called by LAS at 03:11hrs on Saturday, 23 April to Lucas Street SE14 following reports of a shooting.

“Specialist firearms officers were among those who responded.

“Following a search a woman, aged in her late teens, was found with a gunshot injury to her arm in Lewisham Way.

“She was taken to hospital; her condition is not life-threatening or life-changing.

“A number of crime scenes are in place.

“A number of bullet casings have been recovered and sent for specialist analysis.

“At this early stage there have been no arrests.

“Enquiries are ongoing. Anyone with information should call 101 ref CAD 942/23 Apr.”
