TWO fish and chips shops in Orpington and Dartford have been named amongst the best in the UK in the latest annual Fry Awards.

The Village Fish and Chips, located on Petts Wood Road in Orpington, and the Chippy on Lowfield Street in Dartford, were named in the top 50 takeaway spots.

The winners are selected by judges who visit the shops by sampling their food, inspecting the cleanliness of the stores, testing staff knowledge, and looking at their social media presence.

Shops must gain more than 96 marks out of 100 possible to win the award.

The winners were then announced on March 9.

The competition organiser for Fry Magazine, Reece Head, said: “We’re so pleased to announce this year’s winners.

“The awards recognise and celebrate the hard work, passion, and dedication that these operators put into running their businesses.

“It’s been a tough couple of years for the industry, in particular for restaurants that have had to deal with closures.

“Operators continued to adapt, motivate their workforce, and invest in new equipment and systems that have seen them come out the other side stronger and in a better position.”

All takeaways and restaurants that entered will receive a dining report, a winner’s poster, and a plaque to display in their shop.

The Fry Awards 2022/23 will open for entry in the coming weeks, according to Fry Magazine.
