A man from Thamesmead has been charged with the murder of a Ukrainian lorry driver in Belvedere.

On Friday, April 1, Christopher Brownly-Otiede, 27, was charged with the murder of 45-year-old Vitali Skrypniak.

Police were called to reports of a man found injured outside Belvedere Railway Station at 10.13pm on September 18, 2021.

Despite emergency services best efforts, Skrypniak, who was from Lviv Oblast in Ukraine, died at the scene.

A post-mortem exam held on September 21, 2021, gave cause of death as a stab wound to the chest.

Brownly-Otiede, of Sorrell Close, will appear in custody at Bromley Magistrates’ Court on Saturday, April 2.

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: “A man has been charged with the murder of a Ukrainian lorry driver in Belvedere.

“An investigation was launched after police were called to reports of a man found injured outside Belvedere Railway Station at 22:13hrs on 18 September 2021.

“Despite the efforts of emergency services, Vitali Skrypniak, who was aged 45 and from Lviv Oblast in Ukraine, died at the scene.

“A post-mortem examination held on 21 September 2021 gave cause of death as a single stab wound to the chest.

“Christopher Brownly-Otiede, 27, (10/03/1995) of Sorrell Close, SE28, was charged on Friday, 1 April, with the murder of Vitali Skrypniak.

“He will appear in custody at Bromley Magistrates’ Court on Saturday, 2 April.”
