An ambulance has allegedly been targeted by a thief while a care assistant transported patients into hospital in Lewisham.

The alleged theft took place on Tuesday, March 1 outside New Cross Dialysis Centre in Goodwood Road.

The victim, a 21-year-old ambulance care assistant, was helping to transport patients into hospital when the suspect entered the front of the vehicle and stole an iPhone 12.

The ambulance is owned by Kent Central Ambulance Services, a patient transport company.

The company has a sub contract with the British Emergency Ambulance Response Service (BEARS) - who the victim was working for on the day.

Police are now looking to speak to a man (pictured) in connection with the incident.

Detective Constable Michael Gomes, the investigating officer, said: "These is a shocking crime in which a man has stolen the mobile phone of an ambulance care assistant while she was helping patients in the back of the vehicle.

"I would urge anyone who recognises this man to contact police immediately."

Anyone with any information about the identity of the man or this theft is asked to call police on 101, quoting CAD 3171/16Mar.
