A motorcyclist has died at the scene after a crash with a van in Eltham.

Emergency services were called to the scene of the crash on Rochester Way at around 6.35am today (March 2).

Despite the efforts of emergency services, the motorcyclist who was a 57-year-old man was pronounced dead shortly after 7.15am.

His family has been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

The van driver stopped at the scene and is assisting officers with their enquiries.

The road is expected to remain closed for some time and motorists should seek alternative routes.

Anyone who witnessed the collision, or who captured it on dash-cam or other camera footage, should contact police on 101, providing the reference 1001/02MAR.

A spokesperson for Met Police said: “At 06.35am on Wednesday, 2 March police were called to Rochester Way, SE9 following reports of a road traffic collision involving a van and a motorcycle.

“Officers attended with medics from the London Ambulance Service and the London Air Ambulance.

“Despite the best efforts of the emergency services, the motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene at 07:16hrs.

“The driver of the van stopped at the scene and is assisting officers with their enquiries.

“The road is expected to remain closed for some time and motorists should seek alternative routes.

“Anyone who witnessed the collision, or who captured it on dash-cam or other camera footage, should contact police on 101, providing the reference 1001/02MAR.”
