Police have released an image after a man who asked a stranger for a lighter in Bromley town centre was punched in the face.

The victim, a man in his 30s, approached the suspect in Market Square at around 11.30pm on Friday, December 10, who ignored his request before attacking him.

The victim left the scene and later went to hospital, where it was confirmed he had suffered significant facial injuries which will require ongoing treatment.

There has been no arrests, as police appeal for witnesses in the area at the time to come forward.

T/Detective Constable Lucas Ainscough of the South Area Command Unit leads the investigation and said: “This was a vicious assault which has left the victim with lasting injuries.

"The incident escalated quickly but I know there would have been several people in and around Market Square at that time of the evening.

"If you saw anything that could help the investigation, please contact police.

“I would also ask anyone who recognises the man in the image we have issued to call so we can speak to him about this incident.”
