A man in his early 20s has died following a stabbing in Greenwich.

Police have launched a murder investigation after being called to reports of the stabbing in Lionel Road at 5.10pm yesterday (Tuesday).

Paramedics also attended and they found a man with stab wounds.

He was treated at the scene and taken to an east London hospotail - where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Homicide detectives from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command are leading the investigation.

There have been no arrests.

A crime scene is in place at the scene of the incident and is likely to remain so for some time.

Anyone with information, however limited they may think it is, should contact police on 101 with the reference 5622/08FEB.

A Met Police spokesperson said: "A murder investigation has been launched in Greenwich after a man was found with fatal injuries.

"At 17:11hrs on Tuesday, 8 February police were called to reports of a stabbing in Lionel Road, Greenwich.

"Officers attended with London Ambulance Service paramedics. They found a man, believed to be in his early 20s, with stab wounds.

"He was treated at the scene and taken to an east London hospital.

"Despite the best efforts of the emergency services he was pronounced dead a short time later.

"His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

"Homicide detectives from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command have been informed and are leading the investigation.

"At this early stage there have been no arrests but an investigation is under way.

"A crime scene is in place at the scene of the incident and is likely to remain so for some time.

"Anyone with information, however limited they may think it is, should contact police on 101 with the reference 5622/08FEB.
