Gravesend residents can preview what could become a regular service, as Uber temporarily extends its Thames Clippers route to North Kent in February half-term.

Two special services on Thursday, February 17, and Saturday, February 19 will ferry passengers from Gravesend Town Pier at 9.45am, calling at Tibury and North Greenwich, before terminating at London Bridge at 11am.

Passengers can disembark and explore nearby attractions such as Tower Bridge, Borough Market and The Shard, or join the regular Thames Clipper service which travels further down the river by purchasing an All Day ticket.

Gravesend is expected to form a regular part of the route in the future, after the council reached an agreement with Uber Boat, run by Thames Clippers, to sell Gravesend Town Pier earlier this month.

According to ITV, as a condition of the deal, which is expected to be completed imminently, the Gravesend to Tilbury ferry will continue to run and the public will still have access to the pier.

From Gravesend, the Uber service takes just 40 minutes to reach Greenwich Peninsula (North Greenwich Pier), or 60 minutes to London Bridge (London Bridge City Pier).

Uber Boat regular services depart central London piers every 10 - 20 minutes.

Uber teamed up with Thames Clippers in August 2020, allowing users to purchase tickets for in advance through its app and then use QR technology to board.

Prices for the Gravesend service start from £11 per person for a single adult journey, or £19.50 for an adult return journey.

Tickets must be pre-booked online at www.thamesclippers.com/whats-on-and-offers/gravesend-tilbury-leisure-trips
