A person has died after being hit by a train at Gravesend station.

Police were called to the line this morning (January 28) shortly after 6.20am following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

Paramedics also attended however the person was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers are working to identify the person and establish the full circumstances behind their death.

A file will be prepared for the coroner.

Southeastern rail confirmed trains between Dartford and Strood are returning to normal after services were cancelled following the incident.

Some disruption on the lines is still expected to continue until approximately 12pm.

A British Transport Police spokesperson said: “Officers were called to Gravesend station at 6.22am this morning following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

“Paramedics also attended however sadly the person was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Officers are working to identify the person and establish the full circumstances behind their death.

“A file will be prepared for the coroner."

An announcement released by Southeastern Rail said: “A person has been hit by a train between Dartford and Strood.

“The emergency services have safely completed their work following a person being hit by a train between Dartford and Strood earlier today.

“Trains are returning to normal however may be cancelled, delayed or revised as service recovers.

“Disruption is expected to continue until approximately 12pm.

“If you've been affected by what happened on the network today, there is always someone to talk to.

“You can contact the Samaritans on 116 123 from any phone for a confidential chat.

“Trains between Dartford and Gravesend are only able to run between Dartford and Northfleet.

“This also affects our High-Speed services via Gravesend which are unable to run between Ebbsfleet and Strood."
