Seven people have been assessed by ambulance crews after a chemical smell scare in a Chislehurst restaurant.

Firefighters were called to reports of an unknown chemical smell coming from the basement in Cote Brasserie in the high street.

Crews sweeped the building to check for readings of chemical substances but found none.

Firefighters ventilated the building.

The Brigade was called at 12.26pm and the incident was over for firefighters by 1.47pm.

Two fire engines from Sidcup Fire Station and two fire rescue units from Bexley and Wembley fire stations were at the scene.

A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: "Firefighters were called to reports of an unknown chemical smell coming from the basement of a restaurant on High Street Chislehurst this morning.

"Crews carried out a sweep of the building to check for elevated readings of chemical substances, but found none.

"Firefighters ventilated the building. Seven people were assessed on scene by London Ambulance Service crews.

"The Brigade was called at 1226 and the incident was over for firefighters by 1347.

"Two fire engines from Sidcup Fire Station and two fire rescue units from Bexley and Wembley fire stations were at the scene."
