A Lidl store in Sidcup is set to undergo a huge new revamp.

The discount supermarket chain in Foots Cray High Street will be closed from 4pm on Sunday, January 16 for the works.

The existing store will be extended and modernised to enable Lidl to deliver "even more fresh, high quality and affordable produce to the community".

The new store will create 20 new jobs and people who currently work at the store will be transferred to others nearby for the duration.

A new store is set to open in St Mary Cray "in due course" and there is also a store nearby in Instone Road in Dartford for shoppers in the meantime.

Lidl thanked everyone for their "patience and understanding" during the development.

A Lidl spokesperson said: "We can confirm that our store on Foots Cray High Street in Sidcup will close from 4pm on Sunday 16th January.

"This is to enable the extension and modernisation of the existing store so that we may deliver even more of Lidl’s fresh, high quality and affordable produce to the community.

"Once opened, the new store will create an additional 20 jobs for the local area and existing colleagues will be transferred to neighbouring stores for the duration of the works.

"In the meantime, customers can continue to access Lidl’s great range of produce at our new store in St Mary Cray which is set to open in due course as well as our store on Instone Road in Dartford.

"We would like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding as we enter the next stages of development."
