The Deptford Lounge Library is giving away free build your own dragon craft packs to local children.
Inspiring creativity amongst the youngest of Lewisham’s residents, Deptford Lounge Library invites young readers to collect a free craft pack in honour of J. R. R. Tolkien’s 130th birthday.
Tolkien’s colossal dragon Smaug is one of his most famous characters and the library is encouraging children to send in photos of their creations once complete.
Although this week’s theme commemorates Tolkien’s birth on January 3, 1892, the Deptford Lounge Library creates a new craft pack every Saturday for young readers to collect.
Closures and social distancing measures brought on by the pandemic mean libraries have seen a drop off in visitors.
The Deptford Lounge Library hopes the fun, creative initiative will inspire young readers to get stuck into as many books as possible this year.
