A motorcyclist was rushed to a major trauma centre after a serious crash involving a car on a busy Greenwich road this morning.

Ambulance services were called to the scene on Trafalgar Road, near Maze Hill, at 7.23am on Wednesday (January 5). An air ambulance was dispatched. 

A man was treated at the scene, before being taken to hospital. 

His injuries are not life-threatening, according to police.

A photograph shows a motorcycle smashed into pieces outside the vacant Arches leisure centre, inside a police cordon covering part of Trafalgar Road and Maze Hill. 

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said:  "We were called at 7:23am today (5 January) to reports of a road traffic collision involving a motorcyclist on Trafalgar Road, Greenwich. 

"We sent an ambulance crew, an incident response officer and a medic in a car. We also dispatched London's Air Ambulance. 

"A man was treated at the scene and taken to a major trauma centre."
