A remorseless 61-year-old who threw boiling water over a man during an argument in Gravesend, leaving him with burns on 20 per cent of his upper body, has been jailed.

Eduard Janki doused the victim with recently boiled water from a kettle during a dispute at a flat on Milton Place in 2019.

Janki, of Darnley Street, Gravesend, was jailed for five years and six months following a trial at Woolwich Crown Court on December 2, having been found guilty of grievous bodily harm with intent, which he denied.

He was also ordered to serve one year on licence upon his release.

At 8.01pm on April 19, police received a call reporting a disturbance coming from the flat on Milton Place.

The manager of a nearby shop phoned a short time later, reporting that they were trying to assist a customer, who had come into the store with burns to his upper body, by pouring cold water on the wounds.

South east coast ambulance service also phoned to make officers aware of the injuries that had been sustained.

Following treatment, the victim was taken to a local hospital before being transferred to a specialist hospital in London where he was treated for 20 per cent burns to his upper body.

The victim had to undergo two surgeries and have skin grafts following the incident.

Officers arrested Janki inside the flat at around 9.10pm and he was later charged with the offence.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Kara Sweetland said: "This assault has left the victim with visible reminders of this awful incident which he has to deal with every day.

"Had it not been for the fact that the victim quickly sought help nearby his injuries could have been a lot worse.

"Throughout the investigation Janki has showed no remorse for his actions and denied the offence, making the victim endure a trial. His custodial sentence is completely justified."
