FORMER England and Manchester United star Rio Ferdinand is working with a gym to help young people

The project, ‘Find Your Furture’, will create opportunities for up to 150 young people in South London.

It aims to ensure young people to gain employability skills and understand what careers are available in the fitness and leisure industry.

The organisations say that for those who ‘show a real desire’ to gain their Level 2 & 3 personal trainer (PT) qualifications, will be guaranteed an interview for Fitness Trainer roles with the Gym Group.

Activities will be delivered in youth centres across South London and utilise The Gym Groups local gym facilities for a job experience.

Bintou Crookes-Martin, chair of Rio Ferdinand Foundation said: “By developing and investing in young peoples confidence, transferable skills leadership and project management accreditations and in gaining real-life work experience and placements with mentors, this programme will create real pathways for young people to enter the fitness industry and the wider world of work.”

Young people will also gain the ‘Community Sports Leader’ accreditation at the end of the programme.

An additional programme, ‘Grow Your Own’ programme will provide further training and investment into the qualifications needed to become a PT and develop a ‘successful business’.

The foundation was set up by the ex-English centre back in 2012.
