A woman suffered life-threatening head injuries after being hit by a lorry in Lewisham.

Police were called at around 12.50pm (November 23), after the pedestrian was struck on Morley Road, near the junction with Lewisham High Street.

The London ambulance service attended and an air ambulance was also dispatched.

The victim was treated at the scene before being south to a south London hospital, where she is currently in a life-threatening condition.  

Police officers remain at the scene and road closures are in place, causing significant delays.

The lorry driver stopped at the scene. There have been no arrests, as enquiries continue.

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called at 12.55pm today (November 23) to reports of a road traffic collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian on Lewisham High Street, near Morley Road. 

"We sent an ambulance crew, a team leader in a car, an incident response officer, and two medics in cars. We also dispatched London's Air Ambulance.

"We treated a woman at the scene for head injuries and took her to a major trauma centre."
