A new Christmas workshop that will run in Bromley this December aims to channel a love of digital tech into practical skills by teaching children how to code.

The Code Ninjas project run basic coding lessons for children in both the UK and North America, and recently announced they were bringing the franchise to south east London for a limited time during the festive period.

Between December 20-23, Code Ninjas Bromley will run fun and engaging coding lessons from game building and developing STEM skills to working on practical robotics that the kids can then play with their family and friends at home.

Designed for kids aged 7-14, the projects seek to boost key IT and STEM skills that could well prove useful in later life, not least at a time when STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) are much sought after and needed in the UK and around the the world.

The business was launched by businessman and dad of two, Pow Ku, who pointed out how children's passion for video games could be re-routed into education outside of more typical classroom environment.

News Shopper:

"I’ve known for a while now how beneficial coding can be for kids' development and long-term prospects, so when I was searching for a coding school to send my daughter, I was disappointed I couldn’t find one nearby," he said. "So, I took matters into my own hands by launching my own coding studio. I’m now looking forward to giving local children the chance to learn some skills that will put them at a great advantage in life, as well as it being something that offers an alternative to mainstream after-school activities."

"My main priority is to make sure we increase our students’ sense of self-confidence," he added. "I think it’s so important that our classes are face to face but different from a classroom style environment, ensuring the kids know they’re here to have fun instead of emulating the feeling of their standard school day... Coding helps kids to develop critical thinking such as thinking outside the box and also how to approach problems in certain ways... The more I talk about it the more I realise what an amazing thing this could be for kids in Bromley."
