A cyclist is in hospital with serious injuries after a hit-and-run in Bexley.

The 18-year-old cyclist was hit by a car at around 8.30pm on Friday, November 5 in Penhill Road, near the junction with The Rise.

He was treated at the scene for back injuries and was taken to hospital by ambulance crews.

His injuries are not life-threatening.

The car involved did not stop at the scene but was found by police a short time later.

An 18-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of GBH and failing to stop at the scene of a collision.

He has been bailed pending further enquiries to a date in early Deember.

Enquiries into the circumstances are ongoing.

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: "Police were called at approximately 20:45hrs on Friday, 5 November to reports of a car in collision with a cyclist in Penhill Road, near the junction with The Rise, Bexley.

"An 18-year-old man, the cyclist, was taken to hospital for treatment and remains there in a serious condition – his injuries are not life threatening.

"The car involved did not stop at the scene but was located by officers a short time later.

"An 18-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of GBH and failing to stop at the scene of a collision.

"He has been bailed pending further enquiries to a date in early December.

"Anyone with information that could assist the investigation is asked to call police on 101 or tweet @MetCC and quote CAD7867/5Nov.

"Alternatively, contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

"Enquiries into the circumstances are ongoing."

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called at 8:28pm on 5 November to reports of a road traffic collision involving a car and a cyclist on The Rise, Bexley.

"We sent an ambulance crew, who treated a teenager at the scene for back injuries and took him to hospital."
