The Dartford Crossing was partially closed by police after an "unaccompanied backpack" was discovered.

Traffic on the Essex to Kent side of the Queen Elizabeth II bridge was brought to a halt, after an item was spotted near the crossing shortly before midday.

Officers seized the backpack, finding it to be non-suspicious.

A road closure enforced as a precaution was lifted at around 12.50pm.

A three-mile queue built up towards the crossing, stretching back to Junction 31, Lakeside.

Drivers were advised to add 45 minutes to their journeys.
