A motorcyclist has died in crash at the Dartford Crossing this morning (Monday, October 4), police have said.

News Shopper previously reported long queues at the Dartford Crossing throughout Monday amid reports of a crash involving a lorry and motorbike in the area.

On Monday evening, Kent Police confirmed that a motorcyclist had sadly died at the scene of the crash.

In a short statement that also appealed for information about the fatal crash, a spokesperson for Kent Police said:

"At around 9.15am on Monday 4 October 2021, a white KTM 390 motorcycle was involved in a collision with a white lorry, pulling a black trailer, in the east tunnel at the Dartford Crossing. Patrols and South East Coast Ambulance Service attended and the motorcyclist, a man in his 30s, was pronounced deceased at the scene. Kent Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit is investigating the circumstances and officers are appealing for any witnesses to get in contact."

Queues stretched as far back to Junction 3 at the M20 Swanley Interchange on Monday, with motorists facing delays of up to an hour.

Highways England updated road users on the situation just before 5pm, tweeting:

"UPDATE. Tunnel Open - The #EastTunnel at #DartfordCrossing #M25 #A282 has reopened following the earlier serious collision. Traffic remains slow moving on approach. Thank you for your patience."
