There are queues stretching back miles from the Dartford crossing after a serious crash this morning.

A crash between a lorry and motorbike closed took place at around 9.20am, closing the right-hand tunnel, which runs towards Essex.

Traffic can only move through the smaller left-hand tunnel, which remains open.

Queues go as far back to Junction 3 at the M20 Swanley Interchange, with motorists facing delays of up to an hour.

Highways England estimate the incident is expected to clear between 4.30 and 4.45pm.

A spokesperson for Kent Police said: “Officers are currently at the scene of a serious collision in the east tunnel of the Dartford Crossing.

“Kent Police was called at 9.17am on Monday 4 October 2021 regarding the incident involving two vehicles.

“Ambulance crews are also in attendance and the east tunnel has been closed to traffic.

“The west tunnel remains open and there is congestion on the A282 in Kent. Motorists may wish to consider alternative routes.”
