The family of a two-year-old who tragically died after a car accident are fundraising for the air ambulance after the work of medics gave them the chance to "kiss him goodnight" before he passed.

Both father and son, both from Dartford, died following in a collision on the A267 in Frant on August 18, with 36-year-old Andy Hoyle pronounced dead at the scene.

Joshua, aged just two, was rushed from the scene in critical condition via an air ambulance and in the nine days before he died, his family were able to visit him in Kings College Hospital and were "given the chance to kiss him goodnight."

He sadly tragically died from his injuries in hospital on August 27.

But Joshua's aunty has said they are "forever grateful" for the Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance for giving them that opportunity.

Now approaching the funeral, Shane Hoyle said: "We thought it would be nice for people to be able to donate to this amazing charity that was there for us in our hour of need.

"On the 18th August, our lives turned upside down at the news of a tragic car accident involving my brother Andy and nephew Joshua.

"We would love to be able to raise funds to be able to provide some support to another family in their hour of need."

The Kent, Surrey & Sussex Air Ambulance Trust fundraiser has already smashed its initial £500 target, exceeding £5,400.

Earlier this month, Joshua's mother Trudie paid tribute to her "loving" two-year-old son who "was the centre of both mine and Andy's world."

Previously, a 76-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and for failing to stop after a road accident. He has been released under investigation while enquiries continue.

In a statement released last week, Mr Hoyle's family said: “Andy was a beloved son, husband, father and brother who will be deeply missed by all those who knew him.

“We ask that we are allowed time to grieve privately, as we continue to focus on supporting and caring for Andy’s son.”

Detectives investigating the collision are appealing for any witnesses to come forward and would particularly like to hear from anyone who may have captured any dash cam footage from the area around that time.
