Residents in Bexley are being urged to keep on getting tested for Covid-19 as a new Testing Bus starts making its way around the borough.

Bexley's Director of Public Health has said regular testing is a key weapon in the fight against the virus, and that it is "vital that we do not get out of the habit."

The council say coronavirus cases are still high, and Public Health England data shows that last week the Covid rate (number of new cases in the last week per 100,000 people) in Bexley is 177.7 (443 cases), and was at 245.1 (611 cases) last week.

Residents will soon see Bexley’s COVID-19 Testing Bus making its way around the borough reminding everyone to take regular tests, as well as offering a supply of home tests to hand out.

The first stop for the bus will be outside the Wells Pharmacy, Forest Road in Slade Green, and the bus will stay there until 8 October.

The bus will have a supply of home tests to hand out, and there will be staff on board able to carry out tests as the borough tries to keep on top of testing.News Shopper: PAPA

It will also include useful information on the COVID vaccination including details of local vaccine clinics.

Dr Anjan Ghosh, Bexley’s Director of Public Health, said: “As COVID-19 restrictions are lifted it is easy to forget the importance of regular testing. But it is vital that we do not get out of the habit.

“Regular testing is a key weapon in our fight against COVID-19. Without it we can spread the virus without knowing. We must remember that cases are still out there, and people are still being hospitalised.

“Pick up a home test kit or visit one or our ‘no symptom’ test sites across the borough and take a test regularly. If you have COVID symptoms, then you need to isolate and take a PCR test at a local centre or have one sent to your home.”
