A man is in a life-threatening condition after a car which failed to stop for police hit him during a pursuit.

Police in an unmarked patrol car attempted to stop a vehicle in the Sydenham area at around 5.30pm on Friday, September 17.

The vehicle failed to stop and police engaged in the initial phase of a pursuit.

Soon after, the suspect vehicle was involved in a crash with a motorcyclist and pedestrian on Mayow Road.

The London Ambulance Service carried out emergency first aid on the male pedestrian who had suffered a head injury.

The man, 45, was taken to a south London hospital and remains in a life-threatening condition.

His family have been informed of the incident.

The motorcyclist also suffered injuries and was taken to hospital in a non-life-threatening condition.

Two people were arrested at the scene and taken into custody at a south London police station.

Enquiries into the circumstance are ongoing.

The Met's Directorate of Professional Standards and the Independent Office for Police Conduct have been informed.

A spokesperson from Metropolitan Police said: "At approximately 17:29hrs on Friday, 17 September, police in an unmarked patrol car attempted to stop a vehicle in the Sydenham area.

"The vehicle failed to stop and police engaged in the initial phase of a pursuit.

"A short while later the suspect vehicle was involved in a collision with a motorcyclist and a pedestrian on Mayow Road, SE26.

"Officers immediately called for assistance from the London Ambulance Service and carried out emergency first aid on the male pedestrian, who had suffered a head injury.

"The man, aged 45 years, was taken to a south London hospital where he remains in a life-threatening condition. His family have been contacted by police and informed of the incident.

"The motorcyclist also suffered injuries and was taken to hospital. His condition was assessed as non-life-threatening.

"Two people were arrested at the scene and taken into custody at a south London police station. Enquiries into the circumstance are ongoing.

"The Met's Directorate of Professional Standards and the Independent Office for Police Conduct have been informed.

"Any witnesses are asked to call police on 101 quoting CAD 5572/17Sep. Information can also be provided anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
