With freshers right round the corner, research shows that London is the most expensive city for students to enjoy a night out in.

Research by international payment company Xendpay shows that it costs an average £49.66 for students to go out in London.

This is compared with an average of £25.35 in Dundee - the UK's cheapest city for a student night out.

London had the highest cost for every aspect of a night out apart from the cost of a fast-food meal – topped by Cambridge at £7.

London’s average fast-food combo meal cost comes second at £5.94.

The average cost of a pint of beer in London is £5.72, a cocktail £12 and a five-mile taxi fare £26 – making it the priciest party night.

Oxford is the second most expensive city, followed by Brighton, Edinburgh, Cambridge and Nottingham.

At the other end of the scale, Cardiff, Swansea and York follow closely behind Dundee as being cheapest.

A spokesperson from Xendpay said: “Freshers is right around the corner for new and returning university students.

“With the cost of a night out in London being almost double that of a night out in Dundee, students in the capital will need plenty of money-saving savvy to have a good night which doesn’t drain their bank account.”
