The WHSmith's in Beckenham High Street was broken into in the early hours of this morning (Friday).

Police were called to burglary reports at the commercial premises at around 5.50am.

There have been no arrests and enquiries into the circumstances are ongoing.

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 quoting CAD1133/3Sep.

A resident who has lived above the store for more than 10 years said that "WHSmith has been a target for petty thrives for a while now."

He added: "It's such a shame considering they are such lovely people there.

"I know the staff well enough and have even offered to work for them in the evening as I currently work within security so I could pop down from time to time.

"This isn't the first time it's happened."

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: "Police were called at approximately 05:50hrs on Friday, 3 September to reports of a burglary at a commercial premises in High Street, Beckenham.

"There have been no arrests and enquiries into the circumstances are ongoing.

"Anyone with information that could assist is asked to call police on 101 or tweet @MetCC and quote CAD1133/3Sep.

"You can also provide information anonymously through the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
