Free first or second doses of the Pfizer coronavirus vaccine are available to sunseekers in Greenwich Park this Sunday.

A pop-up jab centre will be located near the Pavilion Café, at the top of the hill, from noon to 7pm on July 18.

Everyone over the age of 18 is welcome and there is no need to book in advance, although to qualify for a second dose there must have been an eight week interval since your first vaccination.

Cllr Danny Thorpe, Leader of the Royal Borough of Greenwich said: “As we prepare for Step 4 out of lockdown on 19 July when many restrictions will be lifted, we’re asking everyone to get vaccinated and make use of our walk-in clinics located across the borough.

“We need everyone to get vaccinated to get back to doing the things we love and what a better place and time than at the amazing Greenwich Park this Sunday.”

The latest grab a jab weekend drive comes as the number of new cases of Covid-19 reported each day in the UK climbed above 50,000 for the first time in six months.

A total of 51,870 cases were reported by the Government on July 16, the highest number since January 15, when 55,761 cases were reported.

The latest total is still some way below the peak of the second wave of the virus, which saw a high of 68,053 cases reported on January 8.

But the numbers are on a clear upward trend, with average daily cases up 35% week-on-week.
