CHRISTMAS trees can be turned into compost thanks to a council collection service.
Residents in Swanley are being urged by Sevenoaks District Council to leave their trees on the kerb the night before their fortnightly garden waste collection day.
Trees which are not decorated and which have trunks less than 89mm thick will be taken away by a waste collection team who will shred them into compost.
The council's cabinet member for the environment, Councillor Felicity Broomby, said: "This time of the year, when people are disposing of many recyclable items such as wrapping paper, is the ideal opportunity to make the most of the district's recycling schemes.
"Trees are no different and the garden waste collection scheme is a quick and easy way of recycling them."
Trunks thicker than 89mm can be taken to Kent County Council's (KCC) recycling site in Pedham Place, Swanley, to be composted.
Call KCC's contact centre on 08458 247247 for opening times.
