THERE were emotional scenes as friends of three teenagers killed in a road crash in Charlton visited the scene today to lay floral tributes.

Amy Curran, aged 15, of Raeburn Road, Sidcup, Joe Wallis, aged 18, of Dallin Road, Shooters Hill, and Georgina Fox, aged 16, of Elibank Road, Eltham, were killed in the crash.

The accident happened when the Peugeot 206 the teenagers were travelling in, driven by Joe, collided with a bendy bus in Little Heath at around 6.30am on New Year's Day.

Two other passengers in the car were injured in the crash, which happened near the junction with Cemetery Lane.

The single-decker bus was not in service at the time and the driver was uninjured.

Today Joe's ex-girlfriend of two years Fran Hillier, 18, said: "He was such a sweet boy. He was lovely, always smiling and chirpy.

"I hope his family are OK. It's a horrible time of year to lose someone."

She said Joe worked as a roofer with his dad Stephen, but was planning to go to college to study carpentry.

Miss Hillier, who remained good friends with Joe after they split up last year, said she last saw him at around 3pm on New Year's Eve - hours before the crash.

Kerry Austin, 16, a friend of Joe's, said she was stunned when she heard the news.

"I was shocked, I couldn't believe it," said Kerry, from Charlton. "He was the nicest boy you could ever meet."

Amy Shaw, 15, a school friend of Amy and Georgina, who were pupils at St Thomas More Roman Catholic School, in Eltham, said: "They were best mates, they were really close.

"They made everyone smile and laugh."

She said the girls were interested in music and clothes and enjoyed spending time with their friends.

In a statement Markus Ryan, headteacher of St Thomas More, said: "The school is deeply saddened by the news that two of our Year 11 pupils have died in a car accident.

"Our prayers and thoughts are with their families and friends. Amy and Georgina will be sadly missed by their fellow pupils and the rest of the school community.

"Another pupil was also involved in the accident and remains in hospital. We are praying for Chloe Dunn's speedy recovery and hoping to see her well and back to school as soon as possible.

"We want to reassure our students and their parents that counselling support will be available for students at the start of the new term next week."

A Greenwich Council spokesman said: "The council is deeply saddened by the news of the accident in Charlton. Our thoughts are with the families and friends of those who were killed and with the two survivors who are in hospital.

"We are working closely with the police and would like to express our thanks for the work of all three emergency services which were involved with attending the accident."
