THERE was a surprise treat in store for children when they were ushered into their school hall to watch their teachers take to the stage.
Staff at Upland Primary School in Church Road, Bexleyheath, had been secretly rehearsing their own version of The Wizard of Oz.
It was written and directed by the school's foundation stage manager, Jane Hull.
With lots of singing and dancing involved, even deputy headteacher Pat Baker took part as one of the Bad Witch's henchmen.
The only pupils in on the secret were some 10 and 11-year-olds in Year 6 who painted the scenery for the one-off performance, which was put on exclusively for the enjoyment of the children.
