A BALLOT over the future of 640 council houses will take place next summer.
Council tenants on the Newstead Estate, Lewisham, are to be given the chance to vote on whether to switch their homes to housing association Broomleigh.
The company is offering £26m worth of home and neighbourhood improvements, as part of Lewisham Council's plan to bring all housing up to the Government's Decent Home Standard by 2010.
Improvements are to include new central heating, double glazing, and kitchens and bathrooms for homes which fall below the expected standard.
Mary Lynch, commercial director at Broomleigh, said: "We look forward to meeting tenants over the coming months to talk about the plans and demonstrate the benefits other tenants have already gained through transfer."
The ballot is due to take place next summer.
