Long queues have been pictured queueing in Greenwich after the borough launched a series of events to offer more people access to the vaccine.

Greenwich Council leader Danny Thorpe heralded the "fantastic scenes" in Woolwich yesterday, with queues of people winding around General Gordon Square.

The event is just the start of the borough's local vaccination rollout this week, with localised events hoping to encourage more people to get the Covid-19 vaccine.

NHS Greenwich CCG set up free walk-in vaccination clinics in Woolwich on what was the first day of 'Let's talk about the vaccine'.

The project's next stop is Thamesmead on Thursday, June 10.

A vaccination tent was also set up in Plumstead Common Road before moving to Woolwich Common youth hub.

Cllr Thorpe announced the event on Twitter a few days prior, writing: " Calling all Woolwich residents who haven't yet had a Covid-19 vaccine, or need a second dose under certain critera - We have some open access drop in clinics happening!"

He added that the council will be out and about across the borough over the next couple of weeks in efforts to bring the vaccine closer to residents.

Events like the one in Woolwich will be held from June 8 to June 18 in Greenwich West, Eltham West, Greenwich Peninsula, Woolwich, Thamesmead and Plumstead.

The council leader also revealed he had written to NHS Greenwich CCG in the hopes of setting up a 'mass drop in for vaccinations' in the borough, akin to what happened in Twickenham last week.
