A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman was found dead at a home in Bexleyheath yesterday (Saturday, June 5).

First responders including paramedics from London Ambulance Service (LAS) and officers with the Metropolitan Police were called to Barton Close in Bexleyheath Saturday around 3.10pm over "concerns for the welfare of a woman".

On arrival they found an 89-year-old woman who was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

Her next of kin has been informed.

Police said a post-mortem examination will take place in due course.

The Met confirmed they had arrested 57-year-old man at the scene on suspicion of murder.

He was taken to hospital as a precaution for "treatment to self-inflicted injuries", police said.

The suspect and deceased are thought to be known to each other.

Detectives from the Met's Specialist Crime Command (Homicide) have been informed and a crime scene remains in place at Barton Close.
