A man has been charged with murdering a 74-year-old in New Cross.

Jack Forde, 23, of Wild Goose Drive, SE14 will appear in custody at Bromley Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 31 May, charged with murder.

Police and ambulance services rushed to an address in Wild Goose Drive in Lewisham just before 5am on Friday, May 28, and found man critically injured at the scene.

Despite the best efforts of emergency services, the victim, a 74-year-old, sadly died at the scene.

Police believe the suspect and victim were known to each other, but officers await formal identification, and are still in the process of informing the deceased man's family.

A post-mortem examination held on Saturday, 29 May, gave cause of death as blunt force trauma to the head, chest and abdomen.

A murder investigation was launched by police, and a 23-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder.

Forde was taken to a south London police station and subsequently charged as above, and will now appear in court on Monday.
