Murder investigation in Southwark after man, 78, found dead

A man, aged 78, was pronounced dead at the scene and was found to have suffered extensive head injuries, which a post mortem established as the cause of death.

The investigation is ongoing, but no arrests have been made and police are appealing for anyone with information to come forward immediately.

Officers were called at 11:55am on Wednesday, May 12, to reports of an injured and unresponsive man found at an address in Jamaica Road in south east London.

Met Police and London Ambulance Service attended but the man, aged 78, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A special post mortem examination which took place on Thursday, 13 May established cause of death as a head injury.

While police believe they know the identity of the deceased, enquiries continue to inform next of kin; formal identification awaits.

There have been no arrests; enquiries into the circumstances are ongoing.
