A record-setting Bromley teenager has become the first in her swimming club's 123-year history to qualify for a senior international competition.

Bromley High School pupil Evelyn Davis, 16, is a member of Bromley Swimming Club and has been selected to represent Team GB at the European Swimming Championships in May.

Following some standout performances at the British Swimming Olympic Selection trials, which included setting a new age-group British Record in the 50m Freestyle as well as a personal best time and fourth place finish in the Women's Open 100m Freestyle, Evelyn has prevailed against all the past year has thrown at her.

She spent much of last year training in a makeshift pool in her garden, swimming on a bungee cord, and having broken training cycles when restrictions applied.

Coach David Court commended Evie on her determination and grit which has seen her through, saying: "She kept her goals in mind and didn't let anything phase her.

"She took each day as it came and worked with what she had available.

"The resilience she has shown this year has been amazing."

Evelyn is Bromley Swimming Club's first senior international athlete in their 123-year history, and she was described as a real inspiration to the younger club members, showing them what can be achieved even in the most difficult circumstances.

Grassroots sports clubs have all struggled over the past year and Bromley have faced pool closures, reduction in pool time and increased costs, but the team has held together and is now more determined than ever to help their athletes achieve their goals and continue making waves in the world of British Swimming.
