Police have issued a renewed appeal after a woman was hit by a car in Bellingham on Sunday (April 25).

Officers were called to reports of a Vauxhall Astra in collision with a female pedestrian, who was waiting for a bus, on Bromley Road near the junction with Randlesdown Road and Bellingham Road.

The incident was reported to have taken place at 6.20 am. 

The victim, aged 57, was rushed to hospital suffering serious injuries, where she remains in critical condition. Her family has been informed.

A 25-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and failing to provide a specimen for analysis. He has since been released under investigation.

Detectives would like to speak with anyone who witnessed the collision, or who captured it on dash cam.
