A kitchen fire which wrecked the home of a family in Dartford sadly also claimed the life of their cat.

The blaze, which erupted on Friday night, "caused damage throughout the property" and fans had to be used to clear the house of smoke.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service were called to the fire at around 6pm on April 23, with two fire engines attending Turner Road in Bean near Dartford.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used hose reel jets to extinguish the fire, and a high pressure fan was used to clear the house of smoke.

The fire brigade said the occupants were supported by the Volunteer Response Team.

While there were no reported injuries, sadly a cat died despite efforts to provide oxygen through an animal mask.

The cause of the fire, which started in the kitchen, is not yet known.
