A Bromley mum-of-two is helping busy parents to reduce their food waste by sharing tips on how to use their freezers more effectively.

Kate Hall, 35, set up The Full Freezer during lockdown after being made redundant from her job of six years.

Having already developed her ‘Full Freezer’ system in her own home, Kate is now on a mission to teach it to other families.

Since launching, she has written an e-book, provided 1-2-1 coaching, and launched her online training programme, ‘The Freezer Geek Academy’.

She is now running a pop-up event on Oxford Street on Stop Food Waste Day (April 28) to help spread her message further.

Speaking ahead of Stop Food Waste Day, Kate said: “I love the reactions I get when people realise just how much they can freeze...

“No more binned half tubes of tomato purée or sad-looking vegetables! Almost everything can be individually frozen and then cooked later.

“It’s such a simple way to cut our food waste.”

According to WRAP UK, British households throw away 4.5 million tonnes of edible food every year.

This equates to more than £700 worth of food annually for the average family.

"With around 70% of UK food waste (post farm gate) still coming from households, our homes are the perfect place to start tackling this problem," added Kate.

“By learning to safely freeze and cook from frozen, we can help to reduce food waste – doing our bit during a time of climate crisis, as well as helping to save time and money.”

As a global leader in food service, Compass Group US introduced Stop Food Waste Day in 2017 before going global in 2018.

The purpose of the day is to draw attention to the problem and share practical, creative and impactful ways we can all change our behaviour to minimise food waste.
