Charlton Athletic fans have travelled over 43,000 miles alongside rival club fans, running, walking and cycling virtually across Europe to raise £25,000 for charity.

The Addicks joined 13 other London clubs in the Race Europe Virtual Event 2021, and impressively made up over 25% of the total participants.

Working in squads of 23, each club aimed to be the fastest to cover 6,720 miles that separate all the Euro 2021 Host Cities.

The event ran through March, with participants running, cycling, walking and a whole host of nearly 80 other activities, all carried out Covid-19 compliant.

Together, racers completed over 43,000 miles around the virtual map of Europe.

As well as encouraging them to get active and bringing people together during lockdown, the event has raised £25,000 for Charlton Athletic Community Trust's work with the most vulnerable in our community.

Jason Morgan MBE, CACT’s Chief Executive, said: "My thanks to everyone who has taken part and everyone who has donated money.

"As a charity, the pandemic has affected the level of fundraising and events planned impacting on revenue opportunities, but thankfully with the Charlton family support, this is an amazing amount to raise for CACT."

Last year, CACT worked with 46,778 people across South East London and Kent. From the Upbeats Down’s syndrome football team to mentoring young people at risk of exploitation and street violence, from our award-winning mental health projects to our healthy walks programmes, we are there for the most vulnerable in our community.

The club have been working hard to support the community through the coronavirus pandemic; the community hub in Greenwich, which we’re running in partnership with the Royal Borough of Greenwich, has made and received over 180,000 phone calls since the start of the coronavirus pandemic.

The pandemic has further heightened the need amongst those who were already struggling, and has also brought many more people to our attention who have never previously accessed our support. Your support will help us continue our vital work in 2021 and beyond.
