Greenwich's own Maritime Radio will be celebrating its second birthday with a special 25-hour broadcast.

Starting at 11pm tonight (April 19), the continuous broadcast will see all the Maritime crew taking part in presenting through until midnight the following day.

Throughout the marathon programme, there will be prizes to be won, as well as some surprise outside broadcasts.

Duncan Martin, Maritime Radio’s Managing Director, said: “Two years have flown by! We’re so proud of what we have been able to achieve, bringing real local radio to thousands of listeners in Greenwich and across south east London and north west Kent.

"I hope everyone will tune in to listen to what is going to be a brilliant celebration of our second birthday.

"The Maritime crew live locally and all work really hard to broadcast our programmes and local news from Shooters Hill to the places and people we know. This last year has been very testing, as it has for everyone, but we were able to keep broadcasting and providing local news and information to our 30,000+ listeners throughout, from home, and from the studios.

"We hope to welcome even more listeners to the station as a result of this celebration."

Maritime Radio consists of a team of approximately 65 volunteers and paid staff, broadcasting round the clock from Shrewsbury House at the top of Shooters Hill.

You can tune in to the celebrations by listening to Maritime Radio on 96.5FM, online at maritimeradio.co.uk or via smart speakers.

There will also be posts on their social media accounts including Twitter @maritimeldn and Facebook throughout the 25 hour broadcast.
