A housebuilder has donated £500 worth of vouchers to a primary school in a gesture to support child education in "difficult times".

Bellway London, which is building new homes at Eastside Quarter off Broadway, donated to Gravel Hill Primary School, less than half a mile away on Watling Street.

The vouchers, from WHSmith, will go towards funding new books for the school library.

Deputy headteacher of Gravel Hill Primary School, Matthew Bird, said: “The vouchers that Bellway has kindly donated will be used to help us buy new books for the school library. The kids all love reading, so I am sure they will be very happy with this.

“We really appreciate Bellway donating these vouchers to the school. It is a struggle for primary schools at the moment, but this gift will be a good pick-me-up for the children and will provide a bit of light on a gloomy day.”

Bellway London is building a range of one, two and three-bedroom apartments at Eastside Quarter.

Emma Hamlett, Sales Director of Bellway London, said: “We understand how hard lockdown has been for primary schools.

“As we are building new homes at Eastside Quarter so close to Gravel Hill Primary School – where children of new residents might attend – we thought it was only right that we show our support and help them through this difficult time.

“With the donation of WHSmith vouchers for the school library, we are hoping that we can not only help the pupils with their education but also put a smile on their faces.”
