A 39-year-old man has been charged with the murder of a woman stabbed to death in a block of flats in Plumstead on Easter Sunday.

The woman, aged 50, was killed at a residential home at Ravine Grove, SE18 by someone "believed to be known to her."

Emergency services were called at 2:20am on Sunday (April 4) and despite the best efforts of paramedics, the woman sadly passed away around an hour later.

The block of flats were cordoned off whilst forensic officers gathered evidence and enquiries developed.

A man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder and taken into custody at a south London police station.

The Met Police now say Vasile Bratu, 39, of no fixed address was arrested on Sunday, 4 April on suspicion of murder.

He was charged on Tuesday, 6 April and will appear in custody at Bexley Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, 7 April.

Met Police added: "Confirmation that all next of kin have been informed and formal identification awaits.

"Homicide detectives from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command investigate."
