A man has been charged with arson "with intent to endanger life" following a fire that broke out at a block of flats in Northfleet last week.

On Saturday (April 3), Kent Police announced that 23-year-old Brandon Jones from Gravesend had been charged with one count of arson "with intent to endanger life".

The fire broke out sometime before emergency services including Kent Police were called to Salem Place in Northfleet at 12.42am on Wednesday, March 31.

Officers and Kent Fire and Rescue Service attended, and the home was evacuated before the fire was safely extinguished. No injuries were reported.

A day later, on Thursday April 1, Jones was arrested and charged with the above offence.

"He appeared before Medway Magistrates’ Court on the same day where he was remanded in custody to a hearing at Maidstone Crown Court on April 29," a Kent Police spokesperson said.
