Screams were heard in the early hours of the morning in Sidcup after a woman in her 60s was assaulted at a residential address and taken to hospital.
Met Police say a man, also in his 60s, was taken to hospital with self-inflicted wounds, and will be arrested when fit to do so.
Officers were called to Merrilees Road, DA15, in south east London, at 1:56am on Monday, March 15 to reports of a woman being assaulted.
Local residents reported hearing screams around the same time.
They found the victim, a woman in her 60s, suffering from facial injuries inside the residential address.
The woman was taken to hospital for treatment, but she has since been released.
The suspect is a man in his 60s, and was taken to an east London hospital for treatment of self-inflicted wounds.
He remains in hospital, though in a stable condition, and will be arrested when fit to do so.
A crime scene has been set up with tape and officers guarding the address this morning, and Met Police added that enquiries into the circumstances are ongoing.
