Twin sisters who became social media sensations after opening a bakery just five years ago are releasing their own recipe book under multinational publishing giants, DK.

Rachel Finch and Lauren Sinclair from the Ribble Valley, opened Finch Bakery in Great Harwood after realising that baking for family and friends could actually make them a decent living.

And since their shop appeared in Queen Street back in 2016, what was once a hobby has now grown into a fully-fledged business, which employs more than 34 staff, and has changed the outlook and potential for young people in local enterprise for the better.

Under the handle, Finch Bakery, the 29-year-old former Clitheroe Grammar students boast a whopping 132,000 followers on Instagram, were approached by DK last year to compile a recipe book, which is due for UK release in August.

Rachel said: "The book publishers contacted us last summer and asked us if we were interested in writing a recipe book, and of course, we said yes.

"We're usually super busy, but obviously because of Covid we had to shut our shop, so we've had loads of time to experiment.

"And to be honest it's been a bit of a blessing in disguise as I don't really know how or when we would have had time to write it otherwise."

With the book, the twins, who are both mums to young children, have compiled not only a list of recipes for their famous cakes, brownies, macrons, and cookie pies, but have produced a comprehensive guide of baking techniques, from how to create the perfect chocolate drip, to tempering, and much more.

Rachel continued: "The book is due out in August, and will be available in most UK retailers I think, but we will also be sticking copies on our own website.

"It's not just recipes though, we do provide a lot of advice on how to get the techniques right, so people can have a go at home."

Despite having to take their business online during Covid, it hasn't dampened the girls' spirit - they have just bought their own retail space on Queen Street, closing the original Finch Bakery shop, which they were renting, and moving four doors down; and they also have their sights set on opening another unit elsewhere in the region.

Rachel added: "We need to get the new shop up and running first, but we might look at a new premises somewhere else soon.

"We've no major expectations, so we'll just see where the book takes us really."

The book, containing more than 75 recipes, decorating techniques, and baking tips and tricks will be released in August and the girls plan to reveal the cover of their book very soon on their social media channels.
