A teenager arrested in South East London on suspicion of terror offences has been held for an extended period under the Terrorism Act.

As News Shopper reported previously, the 18-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday morning (February 24) at a home in the south east of the capital.

Police said previously they were detaining him while searches of the property were carried out, and they have now been complete.

This evening (Thursday, February 25), a spokesperson for Scotland Yard said the teen would now be detained until at least March 3 under the Terrorism Act 2000.

The act was amended in 2006 to allow for people suspected of terrorism offences to be detained for up to 28 days without charge.

The man was arrested on suspicion of dissemination of terrorist publications, contrary to Section 2 of the Terrorism Act 2006, police said.
