Archive footage of a bustling Bromley pub hosting a theatre performance over 70 years ago has resurfaced.
The reel, originally broadcast in February 1949, features an unnamed public house in the borough, packed to the rafters with adults old and young.
The BBC report covers the work of 'Strolling Players', theatrical troupes who travel from pub to pub, performing classical plays at the cost of a pint per customer.
Punters sip their tankards of dark ale as The Taverners entertain.
The voiceover says: “Here they are in the middle of Sheridan’s The Rivals at a public house in Bromley.
"Judging from the applause from the audience the play was a great success and a pleasant change from the usual round of darts and conversation.”
