Lockdown has made us spend more of our time in our own homes than ever before, and most of us have thought about doing some DIY home improvements, or even reinventing our home.

Well if you're looking for some ideas, one property, based in the West Greenwich conservation area, has seen a more impressive transformation than most.

Led by architecture studio the Paper House Project, new life has been given to what was a derelict old school hall, and is now a warm and very modern family home, so lets take a look inside.

The SE10 property was given a £235,000, six-month transformation which has made use of clever and modern architecture to preserve and adapt an important local building.

Before, the property was an old Victorian school hall which was sadly largely hidden by an ugly car park. It had previously been used as a meeting hall and office, and was both hidden and unnoticeable.

And the building, which is in the west Greenwich conservation area, 'the Hall had fallen into disrepair and was no longer suitable for occupation', said the Paper House Project, who also called it 'derelict and dilapidated.'

Now, 'Peyton Place' is a bright, warm family home, created by recycling the existing industrial building, adding a new aesthetic whilst preserving its unique character.

Arranged over two floors, the building has been comprehensively refurbished and upgraded to provide a 'function contemporary home suitable for a growing family'.

The car park has been removed, replaced with a large, sunken courtyard fitted with trees, and the newly freed exterior smartened up.

An elevated mezzanine sundeck has also been installed, with a large retractable skylight.

The house's interior has been extensively altered too, with a huge open plan space incorporating living and dining areas and a new modern style.

A raised ground floor has been arranged to take advantage of the large lateral open floor plan and double-height floor to ceilings.

All three bedrooms face out onto a newly excavated private sunken courtyard.

Paper House Project said: "By refurbishing and upgrading the property we have been able to provide high-quality, functional residential accommodation suitable for modern living that maximises the potential of the building whilst maintaining the client’s needs at its core.
